His siter (Sally) is having an identity crisis. Van (Linus) always philosophicle, is now a stoner. Tricia York (Peppermint Patty) and Marcy (Marcy) are still attached at the hip and have settled in to their "mean girls" roles. Van's Sister (Lucy) is now institutionalized for setting the little red haired girl's hair on fire. Matt (Pigpen) is now a germohobe jock. And Beethoven (Schroeder) has focused on his passion of the piano and unsure of his sexuality,  has fallen out of the group. The story explores what it is like to be a teenager while maintaining the esthetic of the original.
